[Feb. 1st, 2011|11:51 pm] |
Afraid to show your face at a Goth club? Not to worry... YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Wear a mask! Or don't!
It's Res's 5 Year Anniversary Masquerade Ball! Be there! Or don't be, and show up secretly anyway!
It's Resurrection's 5 year anniversary and we think you should come celebrate it with us by drinking and dancing the night away...or at least until 1am. In honor of the way Res first started, this event is a semi-formal/formal masquerade so come dressed to the nines. There's lots of special fun lined up:
If you have any official printed flier* from ANY past Res event, we'll let you in to our birthday bash for free.
If you join us in gothic formal attire OR a fitting masquerade outfit, we'll give you a raffle ticket at the door; if you manage to pull off formal attire AND a masquerade disguise we'll give you three tickets! What can you win?
How about free digital copies of the newest CD from control.org, Degenerate OR one lucky grand prize winner could win six months of Resurrection admission free.
Even if you don't take home a raffle prize, you're still going to win as you'll have DJs Shivar (THUD!, Boston) and Rabid Angel pumpin' out the tunes for our birthday bash.
As always:

The same song, performed by two artists in three different generations: "Rock On"
( Videos behind the cut. )
Amazing. To hear the differences between the three versions--16yrs after the fact, and then another 20yrs distant--the first, so full of life and drive, of belief... the second, anthem-like, full of pop feeling, but not as powerful as the first... and then the third, still full of belief, but with a note of sadness, lamenting the passing of an era, yet with hope that we may, one day, again, truly rock on... |

Network TV: Managed by Idiots
This is the new lingerie ad by Lane Bryant, showing a deliciously curvy woman in her underwear, which was deemed inappropriate by ABC and FOX. The same networks which, incidentally, run Vicky's ads continuously during the same time periods this ad was scheduled for. Double standard, much?
The article: http://insidecurve.lanebryant.com/buzz/the-lingerie-commercial-fox-and-abc-didnt-want-it/
Remember, this same decision was made by the same people who thought shows like "Desperate Housewives" were a great idea (in which you can see FAR MORE of the actresses than in this ad) and that the viewing public simply MUST have MORE "reality" shows. So take it as it is. |

| A Rare Commentary on the Evening |
[Apr. 16th, 2010|05:03 am] |
1) If you are the DJ at a nightclub, you should be mostly playing what the patrons of the club wish to hear, not what you want to play. Throw in the occasional bit of new, esoteric, off-genre, or wacky thing maybe twice an hour (that is how the patrons get exposed to new stuff, after all); but for the most part, play the music the patrons want.
Also, don't try to tell the retired house DJ that you can make her famous before you find out who she is; you'll be less embarrassed that way.
2) If I hire you to be security, that means you're there to do a job. If you see one of the other security people physically restraining a patron, I expect you to become involved. By which I mean immediately go over and assist. I should not have to hear that a DJ was forced to step in and help out when there was already security backup present. That is a Fail. If you cannot or will not do the job, tell me so that I can find someone else. |

Jaime Escalante, 79, succumbs to cancer.
I think the National Teacher of the Year Award should be named for this great man, who proved to the world that anyone can learn anything, if he wants to, no matter who he is or where he is from.
You, Sir, stood and delivered. Thank you, Mr. Escalante. Rest well. |

Is it wrong that it feels good to have finished filing my taxes before the IRS even starts officially accepting them? |
